Australian football league A class apart

by Brooke Clark

The Australian Football League (or, the AFL) is the Australian version of, more popular, Football. It is the national competition of Australian Rules Football (ARF). The AFL traces its origin in Melbourne.

The Australian Rules Football is played between two teams of 18 players each, plus interchange players. Strangely, the AFL is played on cricket ovals or similar-sized big grassed arenas.

With no offside rule and the awarding of a free kick for any mark (clean catch) of a ball that has been kicked more than 15 meters, the ARF is a sight to behold. Such an attractive game is bound to attract lots of football betting freaks. The global interest in the game ensures that the Australian Rules Football also lures millions from online football betting syndicates. The 2006 Australian Football League is in full swing and so is the online football betting during the current AFL season.

Officially knows as the ‘Toyota AFL Premiership Season of the 2006 Football League’, the AFL is passing through the final rounds and progressing towards the Grand Final. The bettors usually adopt the method of footy tipping while betting on the AFL. The footy tipping method involves the prediction by the participants of the winning teams in a round of games played each round of Australian Football League. Sometimes the bettors (or tippers) also try to tip the winning margin in the first game of each round.

Usually, the office-going folks enjoy this kind of tipping with the employees involving themselves in groups and bet on the games. Each participating employee put some money to play and the person with the highest score at the end of the season wins a portion of the money.

The footy tipping is also popular on the Internet with media houses and sports books offering the chance to the punters to earn money betting on their favorite teams and players.
