Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro Stable

by Alfred Johnson

Just recently today, Chief of Surgery Dean Richardson, DVM reported that Barbaro Kentucky Derby winner vital signs are fine and he had another restful night.

It is known that Barbaro was eating well and the doctors are expected to remove the fiberglass cast on his ill left foot. Unfortunately, there is no indication the colts condition has better since the vets dismal projection last week.

Last week the colt was intervened and had 80 percent of his left rear hoof wall removed. Barbaro still faces the same tough odds to endure a severe case of laminitis and a reconstructed right hind leg.

There is a close monitoring of Barbaro’s progress in the intensive care unit of the George D. Widener Hospital at the University of Pennsylvanias New Bolton Center. More up-to-date news of his well being are to be released soon.
