The Art of Letting Go
By: Niall C.
The art of letting go… This may sound a bit sad, frustrating and even depressing. But what really comes to your mind whenever you think of letting go of something really important in your life? It could be fear perhaps. Fear of letting go of something or someone which has a very strong impact on you is indeed a challenge. Thus, making it very difficult as well to let go and forget. I would definitely have to agree that the majority of people who live in this world have had an experience with letting go in terms of a lot of experiences they have been through. And believe me, it is not that easy. I have contemplated and thought about discussing this matter very carefully before I suddenly decided to have it written and posted in the internet. The thing is, a lot of people never had the chance to openly discuss these sensitive and private issues regarding their experiences. Most of us are afraid to disclose our feelings and emotions to other people unless we choose the right person to tell it to. It could be a very close friend, a loved one or maybe even your parents. More so, sometimes we would rather keep it to ourselves rather than tell it to someone else.
We all have encountered such things in our lives in which we find it very hard to let go and forget. I have had my personal experiences as well. I do not know if ignoring it would eventually go away. I think that it lingers. There are certain things or situations that we cannot avoid that make us remember it again and again, over and over. And it would even and often make us feel bad and most of the time, cranky. Dwelling on our problems for example make us feel so bad and sad that sometimes we tend to be or feel worthless. There are actually a lot of ways on how we react to certain situations.
Letting go may indeed be very difficult to handle in some cases which involves such things like losing a loved one, breaking up with someone, failing in something that you know that you did your best. These are just to name a few. There are a whole lot more of reasons on why letting go is so difficult to handle.
One way of dealing with letting go based on my experience is acceptance. There are certain things that we cannot change anymore. The more you dwell on it, the more that you will become depressed. Some people find it really difficult to let go. But you need to know that life goes on, there a lot of things and opportunities waiting to be found. Why choose to stay and dwell on something that you know won’t do any good anymore? Acceptance plays a vital role in letting go. Think of it as a learning experience, try to look deep into the reason why things had to happen that way, and learn from it so as not for it to happen again. You will definitely need courage to change the things you can and wisdom for you to know the difference. It may take time though to forget but I assure you that it will do you good. The past experience may linger every now and then but by that time you will only think of it as the past. Time may also come and you will realize that learning from your mistakes would help you do better in the future. After all, we all learn from our past mistakes. So let go of the past and step forward to the future! If it worked for me then I am sure that it will work for you as well!
