Authors Comment: All events as portrayed in this article are factual, although they are not exact as to the sequence.

Place of Occurance: A small town sitting on the San Andreas Fault- just over the Oakland Bay Bridge from San Francisco-called Hayward,California. Object of Article: To impress the reader with the severity of a computer virus, not only the damage done to the computer, but to the actual damage that may occur to the individual personally. The personal damage done to me as presented in this article is under-emphasized.In actuality, My loss was akin to losing a member of my family,or losing a creation you had placed a bit of your heart and soul into, the loss of which could change the direction of your life if you allow youself to over-react. Prepare youself! You are not invulnerable(Webster;Incapable of being wounded, injured,or harmed).

Day One: Confusion.(Webster;(Disturbance in mind or purpose).

What is going on? Too many errors, too many lockups. Why cant I get into this site! It is taking forever! I cant get into my email! My password is incorrect? Try again? Will I ever get through loading this program? What is going on? I am so tired! Its one A.M. To bed!

Day Two: False Complacency.(Webster;Self-satisfaction accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers).

I know that after I run clean-up with scan and sit here for an hour waiting for the defrag to complete, delete this program, that program, clean up my drive, flush out the temps, compact my email, I will have a squeeky clean hard-drive! Great! Look at it go! I guess I had better send my ad to Laurie at TheInformer Newsletter my weekly ad.....

Shock! Why didnt my virus scan inform me or delete the little germ? Ill look it up and see what is going on! New virus? I need to up-grade? I think Ill try a different virus scan. Lets see...search:virus-W95...Ah! Aug.2000.. Alladin lists it... Oh, Look at the deletions.....Im ruined!

Day Four: Disillusionment:(Webster; The state or condition of being disenchanted). Ill give it a try. Nothing seems to be working right! I cant get into my favorite GhostSurfers site...email isnt working right.Darn! Ive lost the sixteen subscribers from $2Ads.... Where is my Windows Disc? Restore? O.K. Not too good...All the work I put in! Down the drain. I dont think I will ever get set up again. What is the use? I dont have what it takes to be a good publisher. I think I shall quit and relieve myself from the constant pressure, the long hours of working, the never get thanks for, no matter what you do to please. Yep! No one will miss me.

Day Five: Recrudescence:(Webster;A new outbreak after a period of abatement or inactivity).

Yawn! What a night! Couldnt sleep much. The thoughts kept racing through my head. I am letting down a number of people that had enough belief in me to subscribe to the birth of a newsletter. Shouldnt I return their faith by trying again? I am rid of the germ that infected my computer. What does my fellow web friends have to say? Glad to see you back on again! Congraulations! Welcome back! Let us know if there is any thing we can do! Wow! After spending an hour on the phone with ATT @home Support, my computer is working great. I am back on again!
